Karen Byrd is currently an obedience instructor at CDTS working with puppies and beginners on Wednesday mornings. Karen was born, raised and still resides in Weaverville. As a child, her next door neighbor was Jane Johnson (a lead instructor at CDTS), so Karen grew up watching dogs in training. Karen trained her first dog when she was in middle school and went on to train 3 more before becoming serious about competition. Currently Karen is training a Dalmatian (8 years) and a Border Collie (4 years) in obedience; actively competing with both dogs in the sport of agility; and constantly loving on an older gentleman Dalmatian (12 years) and adorable mixed breed (11 years) at home! Outside of the ring, she and her family--including the canines--enjoy camping, biking, hiking, and horseback riding.
