Companion Dog Training School offers classes for every dog from seven week old puppies on up. For those who wish to take their pets beyond the basics, and perhaps go on to obedience competion, there are transition and advanced classes.
Utilizing positive motivation techniques, you will learn to train your dog while having fun and creating a unique human-canine bond. For everyone's protection, it is imperative that all dogs who attend class are fully vaccinated by their veterinarians. Owners must be able to supply either a vaccination record or a letter from their veterinarian indicating that the dog is current on all vaccinations.
Puppy classes, which are open to puppies 7 to 16 weeks of age, offer you a unique opportunity to socialize your puppy with other puppies and people, as well as train your puppy. This socialization/play is essential to your puppy’s social development as it teaches the pup appropriate behavior with other dogs and people. Puppy classes are 7 weeks long, and are ongoing. These are not drop-in classes. Puppies are accepted weekly for their 7 week term. Please call to enroll your puppy.
Beginning obedience classes are for dogs over 16 weeks of age. The same exercises are taught to both the puppy and beginner classes, with the exception of the puppy socialization/play.
Our goals for these classes are:
To teach owners how to work with, motivate, and train their dogs.
To help owners understand canine behavior and deal with common issues such as biting, mouthing, jumping up, chewing, digging, and house training
IIIn both puppy and beginner class, the following behaviors are taught:
Attention to owner
Come when called
Sit, (lie) down, stay
Walk on leash without pulling
Heeling will be introduced to those wanting to try competition obedience
Stand for exam (useful for when visiting the veterinarian or when being groomed)
Sit still while being petted by a stranger
The first week of each of our 7 week beginner classes is an orientation session, without dogs. At the end of the orientation session, you may decide whether the classes would be of benefit to you and your dog and enroll at that time. Please have you pet's shot records at the orientation. The cost is $95.00 for the 7 week class, payable by cash or check.
Each session is approximately 1 hour. Because we have multiple instructors in each class, you will receive small group instruction and demonstration. In the Beginner Class you will also receive written instructions to guide your practice sessions between classes. If you spend 15-20 minutes per day practicing, your dog or puppy will surprise you with what they have learned by the end of the 7 week course.
